Scrappage to Run Longer Due to Double Counting?

Reports suggest that the government is being forced to re-evaluate the actual numbers of cars sold through the scrappage scheme after double counting! The government’s database is currently going through data cleansing activities after officials found cars being tallied for no reason.

Some of the erroneous counts include; counting people who only enquired about trading in their old car for the scrappage cash, counting people who traded in their car with the scrappage scheme and then upgraded their new car before receiving it and people who wanted to get the scrappage deal but whose car turned out not to be valid. Once these erroneous people are removed from the government’s database they will know for real how much of the scrappage money budget is left - which will likely mean the scheme will continue until nearer its final drop dead date of February 2010 as more money is available.

Of course, maybe if the government had put proper systems in place before the scheme started then they wouldn’t have to waste money now fixing their database.. Then there would be even more scrappage cash available for everyone.
