Ford & Honda Delay Scrap Cashback

Ford and Honda have both announced that they are delaying their involvement with the UK Car Scrappage scheme. As reported by the BBC as of the 18th May, both car makers are citing concerns over VAT arrangements and how the industry’s portion of the scrappage rebate could be shared between the car makers and car dealerships.
Under the new scrappage scheme, cars more than 10 years old and with a current MOT (click here for the full scrappage rules) can be ‘traded in’ for a new car in return for a £2000 bonus. In fact some car makers, including Fiat, are offering better money back car rebate schemes depending on the car you buy.
At present it looks as though Ford and Honda will get involved with the scrappage bonus scheme - just not right now. So if you want to trade in your old junker for a shiny, new car and have to have a Ford or Honda you’ll just have to wait a bit. Or buy a lightly used car in the meantime.
