In the pre-budget report the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that the UK government would be running a boiler scrappage scheme starting in 2010. The final details of the scheme have yet to be finalised, but the goal is to reduce the number of inefficient, and hence expensive to run and environmentally damaging, boilers currently in use in British homes.

“Each inefficient boiler adds over £200 to household bills and one tonne of carbon to the atmosphere”, the Chancellor said as he introduced the scheme. With this new boiler scrappage incentive the government will offer £400 to a household that scraps their old boiler. With the budget currently set to help up to 125,000 homes check in regularly to see when the full details of the scheme are announced. In the meantime, stay warm through this cold, wet British winter!
