Citroen now offer a UK scrappage deal that exceeds the £2000 offered as standard by the government on certain cars. According to Citroen’s site, you can get up to £3000 off a Grand C4 Picasso should your existing old car qualify under the scrappage scheme.
What’s more, Citroen also offer a trade-in incentive should your car not fall meet the UK scrappage rules. For cars registered before 2005 they offer up to £1000 in trade-in rebates. That’s useful to know if your car isn’t quite old enough to get the scrappage bonus.
35,000 New Cars Benefit from Scrap Scheme

Government figures released earlier this week show that 35,000 new cars have been sold under the scrappage scheme. That accounts for an estimated saving of £70,000 for people who bought new cars!
The scrappage scheme put in place by the British Government runs until March 2010. Under the scheme, vehicle owners can receive money back when they scrap an old car. The money is part provided by the government, who have put aside enough money to fund 300,000 vehicles in this way - once that money has run out, no more scrappage bonus. So if you have an old car that meets all the scrappage rules then think about buying a new car sooner rather than later.

Ford and Honda have both announced that they are delaying their involvement with the UK Car Scrappage scheme. As reported by the BBC as of the 18th May, both car makers are citing concerns over VAT arrangements and how the industry’s portion of the scrappage rebate could be shared between the car makers and car dealerships.
Under the new scrappage scheme, cars more than 10 years old and with a current MOT (click here for the full scrappage rules) can be ‘traded in’ for a new car in return for a £2000 bonus. In fact some car makers, including Fiat, are offering better money back car rebate schemes depending on the car you buy.
At present it looks as though Ford and Honda will get involved with the scrappage bonus scheme - just not right now. So if you want to trade in your old junker for a shiny, new car and have to have a Ford or Honda you’ll just have to wait a bit. Or buy a lightly used car in the meantime.

The DVLA, responsible for running the Scrappage scheme for the government (officially called the ‘Vehicle Discount Scheme’), have announced the full set of requirements for how you can claim your £2000 discount off a new car. The UK scrappage scheme runs from mid May 2009 to March 2010 - not even a full year. Also, this is a fixed budget scheme - so once the allotted money has run out, no more new car discount. So get your skates on!
The rules are as follows - don’t forget to double check with the garage when you buy your car!
