Fiat Thanks European Governments for Scrappage Schemes

The Italian car company Fiat thanked the various governments of Europe for their respective scrappage schemes. They are quoted as saying that global sales of their three car brands, Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo, had risen by 5.7% to a total of 1.84 million cars. They said that their sales in Germany had almost doubled, due mostly to the German scrappage scheme, and in the UK they’d seen a rise of 17.7% overall.

Unfortunately it was not all good news for Fiat, as their parent company, Fiat Group, had made an annual net loss which they attributed to taking a take in the US car company Chrysler.
